Lauren Januhowski, born in 1992 in Houston (Texas, USA), creates work that visually brings together autobiographical stories and accounts of the women around her. Each piece is composed of monotype-printed fabrics, assembled through sewing, embroidery or weaving. Januhowski's process is meticulously detailed, a ritual that ties her to the history of her American family’s sewing practices. Color plays a role in the perception of the emotions presented, while embroidery invites a more intentional and intimate look at the textile work. The layers of transparent fabric suggest physical as well as emotional depth. Throughout the allegories that make up her work, Januhowski gives a voice to the female characters she creates based on her daily life, intimate spaces, and discussions with women in her community. Through her projects, Lauren Januhowski aims to propose a complex and multifaceted image of the woman, like a patchwork quilt, while actively challenging the emotional and societal complications that we face together as women.

Lauren Januhowski graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from New York's Cooper Union in 2015. After moving to France, Lauren attended the École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris in 2018 and graduated in the "Printed Image" sector in 2020. Her work has been shown in multiple group exhibitions in galleries and art centers such as Galerie Treize-Dix, Magasins Généraux, Galerie Mansart, Galerie Christian Berst, La Grande Halle de La Villette, Art Basel in Basel, and most recently in a solo exhibition at Gallery BimBam. Throughout 2024, Lauren Januhowski carried out two artistic residencies: one at the Abbaye de Maubuisson in Saint-Ouen-l’Aumône, France from April to August, and another at the Kalhath Foundation in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh from October to December, thanks to the Villa Swagatam program in India.

Lauren Januhowski, née en 1992 à Houston (Texas), réalise des œuvres qui rassemblent visuellement des histoires autobiographiques ainsi que des récits des femmes qui l'entourent. Chaque pièce est composée de tissus imprimés au monotype, assemblés grâce à la couture, la broderie ou le tissage. 

Le processus de Januhowski est minutieusement détaillé; c’est un rituel qui la lie à l’histoire des pratiques de couture dans sa famille américaine. Les couleurs jouent un rôle dans la perception d’émotion présentée tandis que la broderie invite un regard plus intentionné et intime du travail textile. Les couches de tissus transparents suggèrent une profondeur physique ainsi qu’émotionnel. Tout au long des allégories qui constituent son œuvre, Januhowski donne voix aux personnages féminins qu’elle crée en fonction de sa vie quotidienne, de son intimité, et de discussions avec les femmes de sa communauté. À travers ses projets, Lauren Januhowski souhaite proposer une image complexe et multiple, tel un patchwork, des femmes, tout en remettant activement en question les difficultés émotionnelles et sociétales auxquelles elles sont confrontées.

Lauren Januhowski a obtenu une licence en beaux-arts à la Cooper Union de New York en 2015. Après avoir déménagé en France, Lauren a rejoint l’École des Arts Décoratifs de Paris en 2018 et a été diplômée du secteur “ Image imprimée “ en 2020. Son travail à été présenté à travers multiples expositions collectives dans des galeries et centres d’art, tels que la Galerie Treize-Dix, les Magasins Généraux, la Galerie Mansart, la Galerie Christian Berst, La Grande Halle de La Villette, Art Basel à Bâle, et plus récemment dans une exposition personnelle au sein de la Gallery BimBam. Tout au long de l'année 2024, Lauren Januhowski a effectué deux résidences artistiques : l'une à l'Abbaye de Maubuisson à Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône, en France, d'avril à août, et l'autre à la Fondation Kalhath à Lucknow, dans l'Uttar Pradesh, d'octobre à décembre, grâce au programme Villa Swagatam en Inde
