COUNCIL OF KEEPING
September 2026, Börjesson Perotti Gallery, Paris, France.
Börjesson Perotti presents “Council of Keeping,” the first solo exhibition of Lauren Januhowski (1992, Houston, Texas) with the gallery. Here, works from different series and periods are brought together; collectively, they trace the universe of the artist. They can be understood as an archive, a keeping of sorts, of the stories collected and told by Januhowski. The pieces also very much echo the way histories themselves are gathered, transformed, and passed on. The act of stitching, layering, and assembling becomes more than technique; it becomes a narrative technique.
Often evoked in circles, councils translate our fundamental need for connection and sharing. The circle itself remains a potent symbol of gathering, protection, and communal wisdom across cultures. When viewed together, Januhowski’s textile works create a complex and layered dialogue, speaking of relationships built through solidarity, deep spiritual connection, and listening. They recount the care Januhowski puts into studying her surroundings while creating a literal council.
