GROUNDING RITUALS
Grounding Rituals continues the collaboration between textile artist Lauren Januhowski and publisher-printer Cha Gautier (Butter Press) that began with their first book, Healing from Shadows (2023). The project is rooted in two residencies conducted in 2024: one at the Abbaye de Maubuisson (Saint-Ouen l’Aumône, France) and the other at the Kalhath Foundation (Uttar Pradesh, India). Between monastic silence and the bustle of the embroidery workshop, Lauren has delved deeper into a practice-based exploration in which embroidery becomes a tool for grounding oneself. This book is not merely a catalog, but a living archive and a political act: it asserts that slowing down, repeating, and contemplating are strategies of resistance in the face of contemporary fragmentation. Separated in two sections for each residency: “Archives” and “Production”, the presentation of her journeys encourages self-reflection while the technical exploration of the tactile medium echoes the artist's motifs and the rituals of presence explored during her stays.
Including textual contributions from Juliette Leroy, Emmanuel Reiatua Cuisinier, Sukanya Deb, and Helena Schummer von Bothmer.
Grounding Rituals is printed and designed by Cha Gautier, edited by Butter Press. The book is printed in 7 risography colors with 136 pages, 13 cm x 19.7 cm. Published in May 2026 as an edition of 200, Grounding Rituals is coptic bound with a printed book cloth cover.
